WLL — Working Load Limit
01 — Definition
The maximum load a rigging component is designed to hold in normal use. The WLL is derived from the Minimum Breaking Load (MBL) divided by a safety factor — typically 5:1, or 7:1 for overhead rigging. Every component in a rigging system must be rated to the same WLL or higher, because the weakest component sets the WLL of the whole system.
02 — In the field
Never mix rigging components of different WLL ratings and assume the higher rating applies: the whole chain is limited by its weakest link. Document the WLL of every component and verify the total suspended load before you fly anything.
