Network Redundancy
01 — Definition
Backup network paths, so that a single cable or switch failure does not take the whole system down with it. Dante Redundancy rests on two dedicated networks, primary and secondary, on completely separate hardware; RSTP instead brings redundancy within a single managed switch fabric. The rule never to forget: Dante Redundancy wants completely separate network cards and switches — it is not the same thing as an RSTP-protected loop.
02 — In the field
On a critical show, provision separate physical switches for the Dante primary and secondary networks. If you have wired redundancy across two ports of the same switch, that protects you from a cut cable or a dead port, but not from the switch itself: that chassis stays the single point of failure.
