Networking / AV-ITGLOSSARY

QoS — Quality of Service

01 — Definition

The managed-switch feature that lets some traffic go ahead of the rest. In AV, priority goes to audio (Dante) first, then video (NDI), then control, then best-effort. Dante marks its traffic DSCP EF (Expedited Forwarding, 46) — which only counts if the switch honours it, with QoS Trust enabled.

02 — In the field

A managed switch with QoS disabled treats Dante exactly like a large file transfer. Enable QoS Trust DSCP on every port carrying Dante, and check it from the switch CLI once configured.
