Art-Net
01 — Definition
The protocol that sends DMX over IP, in UDP unicast or broadcast. Universe addressing combines Net (0 to 127) × 256 + SubNet (0 to 15) × 16 + Universe (0 to 15), giving a value from 0 to 32767. Mind the broadcast mode: it floods every device on the subnet — no trouble on a small rig, a problem on a large network.
02 — In the field
On a big rig, prefer sACN to Art-Net broadcast. In broadcast with 100+ universes, Art-Net can overload switch CPUs and trigger Dante dropouts on the same network. Move to Art-Net unicast, or migrate to sACN.
