Bandwidth vs Throughput
01 — Definition
Two figures routinely mistaken for one another. Bandwidth is a link's maximum theoretical capacity (1 Gbps, say); throughput is what actually gets through once protocol overhead, retransmissions and competing traffic have been taken out. On 1 Gbps, Dante runs at around 80% usable throughput, NDI High Bandwidth nearer 60%.
02 — In the field
Plan on 70% of rated bandwidth, never 100%. A 1 Gbps link carrying Dante + NDI + sACN + control should not exceed 700 Mbps of combined traffic — you need the headroom for bursts and retransmissions.
