Fixture Patching
01 — Definition
Giving each fixture its DMX start address and its profile (personality) in the console, so the control channels map to the right functions. Addresses must not overlap: a fixture using 16 channels from address 1 occupies channels 1 to 16, so the next fixture starts at 17. A wrong profile or overlapping addresses, and fixtures respond to the wrong parameters — pan reacting to a colour fader, for instance.
02 — In the field
Address fixtures with no gaps and no overlaps, and load the exact profile for the fixture mode you set on the unit. A fixture set to 16-channel mode but patched as 8-channel will behave erratically from the first cue.
