HPF — High-Pass Filter
01 — Definition
A filter that passes the highs and attenuates everything below its cutoff. On a console, the channel HPF (low-cut) clears out stage rumble, handling noise, plosives and mic-stand vibration. Typical settings: 80–120 Hz for vocals, 100–150 Hz for most instruments, off or very low for kick and bass. The slope is usually 12 or 24 dB/octave.
02 — In the field
Engage a HPF around 80–100 Hz on almost every channel that does not carry the low end. Removing the sub-100 Hz energy you never use cleans up the mix, frees headroom and drops low-frequency feedback and stage rumble immediately.
