VideoGLOSSARY

Video Latency

01 — Definition

The delay between capture and display, stage by stage. Camera sensor readout: 1–5 ms. HDMI processing: 1–5 ms. SDI: <1 ms. NDI HX3 encoding: 8–16 ms. Projector display processing: 10–80 ms. End to end in IMAG, you typically land on 33–67 ms (2–4 frames at 60 fps). Noticeable lip-sync desync begins at around 45 ms.

02 — In the field

In IMAG, if the screen image visibly lags the live performer, add audio delay to bring it back into line. Delaying the PA by 33–67 ms to follow the video delay is standard practice in large-venue IMAG.
