Safety Bond / Safety Cable
01 — Definition
The secondary restraint wire or sling that catches a fixture if the primary mounting lets go. Required on any overhead fixture not clamped to a secure structural point, and rated at minimum to the full weight of the fixture. It goes up with minimal slack — not as a long loop — to limit the fall distance to a few centimetres.
02 — In the field
A safety bond rigged as a long loop protects against almost nothing: the fixture falls the full length of the loop before the safety takes the load. Rig yours with near-zero slack — the bond should be taut when the clamp is properly engaged.
