VideoGLOSSARY

Colour Gamut

01 — Definition

The range of colours a display can reproduce. Rec.709, the HDTV standard, covers around 35% of the visible spectrum; Rec.2020 (UHD/HDR) around 76%; P3 (digital cinema) around 53%. LED walls often exceed Rec.709 and come close to P3 — to the point that, without colour management, Rec.709 content looks oversaturated on them.

02 — In the field

Apply a LUT or a colour management pass in the media server to stay broadcast-accurate. Without it, skin tones turn orange and saturated colours clip on camera.
