HDR — High Dynamic Range
01 — Definition
Video that stretches the brightness range (1000–10,000 nits peak) and widens the colour gamut. Three main flavours: HDR10 (open standard, static metadata), HLG (broadcast HDR, backwards compatible with SDR) and Dolby Vision (dynamic metadata, scene-by-scene tone mapping). Showing it takes an HDR-capable display and an HDR source, plus HDCP 2.2 throughout the signal chain.
02 — In the field
Send HDR content into a chain configured for SDR and you get washed-out, overexposed images. Before the event, check that the EOTF (electro-optical transfer function) set in the processor matches the content format.
