RCD / GFCI
01 — Definition
The residual-current device that trips as soon as the live and neutral currents differ — the sign of a leakage-to-earth fault, and the primary protection against electrocution. Typical trip threshold for personnel protection: 30 mA. Outdoor and wet events require RCD protection on every circuit; and the cumulative leakage of many switch-mode power supplies can be enough to nuisance-trip a sensitive RCD.
02 — In the field
On outdoor rigs, split the large loads across several RCDs. Dozens of LED drivers each leaking a couple of mA can sum past 30 mA and trip a shared RCD with no real fault anywhere: spread the leakage across several devices.
